Beach Identities & Typology

2024-2026

Typology is defined as a classification of objects by type - not to be confused with typography.

Beach identities is a project examining how we percieve beaches. Rather than exploring emotional or human connections - instead it is an examination of the shells and pebbles found in our coastal landscapes.

Beach Identities: Graded Pebbles - Chapel Porth Beach, Cornwall, 2024

Beach identities featured in a Two Designs ‘Now Here’ publication in 2024.

Toadstools - Queenstown, New Zealand, 2026

Spire shells - Long Beach, Otago, New Zealand, 2026

Each beach has it’s own individual properties - whether it be quartz lines running through rocks, an array of colours in each individual pebble or thousands of spiral shells collected from the sandy shores.

Through photographic arrangements, print and publication each typography encourages the exploration of similarities within collections individual objects. The bank of images and typologies continues to grow every day - most recently photographing individual toadstools from a series of hikes in New Zealand.
